Trying to Find the Balance
After their first semester, they’d learned their lesson. No matter how tired they were, they decided to make the time for things other than studies and homework.
It started with a visit from Johnny Zest. He’d come looking for Leslie, but he was in class. Imo brought him in and they started talking.
Eventually, Leslie came home and they had a pleasant visit. Johnny apologized for his standoffish behaviour at the Humour & Hijinx Festival. After explaining why, he’d given Leslie and his friends an invite to a party later in the week. It went a long way in making amends.
On Tuesday, they headed over to the GeekCon. Leslie’s teammates had been talking about during practice. They’d thought they’d check it out.
They had rockets to build and fly, games to play, and computers to hack and play around on. Not sure where to start, they agreed it was every man for himself.
While Leslie had decided to use his skills to help build a rocket, Imo decided use his time to join the hack-a-thon. Using his skills on their antiquated systems, he worked the system and passed challenge after challenge.
Gus was off chasing skirts somewhere as usual. Turns out there was something for everyone at the Festival.
Towards the end of the Festival Imo and Leslie had split up to look for Gus.
Leslie ended up running into a human named Moira Fyres. While everyone else had been talking about cosplay and characters on TV, Moira had been talking about plants. It had instantly caught his attention.
They’d talked for a bit and Moira asked Leslie to join her club: The Garden Gnomes. Thanking her profusely, Leslie had accepted.
Friday night the guys found themselves at the Spice Festival. It was bright and loud and colourful.
Gus and Imo wandered around looking at everything. At first Leslie joined them, but then he found potted plants and stayed to gather samples while the other continued on.
Eventually they all met up again and sat down at the bubble blower. It had caught all their eyes, and after watching people use it for a while, they decided to try it.
Humans had some interesting ideas on things. Flavoured bubbles! It was quite the treat.
Finally the day had arrived! The party Johnny had gotten them into arrived.
“It’s at a Museum?” Gus sounded confused as they arrived.
“No, no. Behind it.” Imo said in exasperation. Honestly, did they not study how humans partied?
Turning the corner they found a crowd already dancing, hidden by the bushes and the building. Leslie stopped in his tracks. This was a bigger crowd than he was used to. Imo grabbed his arm and pulled him forward. It was time to break Leslie out of his shell.
Gus trailed behind the other two as they entered the party. It was a veritable smorgasbord! There were human beauties everywhere.
Gus tried his luck first with Vanessa and they seemed to hit it off, but then he spied a beauty. Turns out her name was Candy and they hit it off. He chatted her ears off, as the other two partied.
Eventually though everyone needs to sleep, and Imo and Leslie found Gus face down on the ground as the party broke up. They picked him up and headed for home as Gus sleepy called for a sweet treat called candy.
On Sunday Gus recieved a phone call from Candy asking him out on a date. The ended up at the Blue Velvet Night Club.
Gus decided to lay it on thick. After all, if she wanted a date, he’d give her a date. His whispers of sweet nothing, and his teases really seemed to hit it off with Candy. Eventually, feeling like he’d hooked her, he gave her a rose as a metaphor for his heart. This date was going really well.
