The Eggplant Army
…gry….
Hun….
Hun..gry….
Ezza sighed and rolled over. She elbowed Zas until he grunted. She rubbed the sleepers out of her eyes, and elbowed him one more time. Finally he rolled over, and held his hand up, his fist closed. Ezza laughed and pushed his arm down.
“Nope, Sorry no rock-paper-scissors today. I did it all by myself yesterday while you were at work. It’s your turn today.” Ezza giggled and gave him a shove towards the edge of the bed. Zas got up with a sigh, muttering about an evil overlord.
Ezza sighed and huddled back into the covers. It had been awhile since she could sleep in like this, but she had to admit life was good right now. It was actually even better now that Zas was going to the nursery to be a good dad.
The days were passing fast, and everyone was having a blast. Nigel Su’s hair finally grew in, and it was curly blonde, like his Grandfather Nigel’s was. Ezza was head over heels in love with him, Cameron doted on him as well. The morning Cameron went in to wake up Nigel Su and discovered it, they ended up yelling and hugging each other silly.
Nigel Su turned out to be quite the charmer. Ezza had a blast taking care of Nigel Su. They spent all day together and were bonding well.
After feeding Nigel Su a meal (They found out he was a picky eater,) Ezza would spend sometime potty training.
Cameron taught Nigel Su to talk, and to dance. Although Nigel Su certainly wasn’t liking the lesson. He wanted to do everything by himself these days.
Cameron even tried teaching him manners. However, when Nigel Su stopped responding to him, Zas took over.
Zas also took a turn at helping with Nigel Su. He would read him to sleep on a regular basis.
Zas felt quite proud of himself the first night. Cameron teased him that it was Zas’s boring book choice that made him fall asleep faster.
Perhaps, the funnest time was Bath time. Cameron’s first time with his toddler was quite the experience. It had Zas and Ezza in stitches from two rooms away.
After getting Nigel Su in the tub finally, things seemed to go smoothly until Nigel Su decided to splash. Cameron didn’t appreciate the water in his face, and Ezza and Zas could hear him repeatedly calling for Nigel Su to stop wrecking his clothes, they were expensive.
If they weren’t laughing hard enough from that, Cameron’s frantic shout of “Don’t eat the sponge!” sent them into stitches. Ezza had to run to the other washroom, leaving Zas to collapse on the couch in giggles.
It wasn’t all fun and games…sort of. Nigel Su got lessons almost daily. From how to stay in the house and not run away from Auntie Ezza and everyone else,
to lessons on blocks and vocabulary.
No matter how busy it got, or how late he worked, Cameron would always go and tuck Nigel Su in when he got home.
All three of them loved spending time with him, but someone got jealous: Pepper.
Ezza spent her free time with Pepper, cuddling her, playing, brushing, bathing, but it wasn’t enough. Ezza couldn’t go outside looking the way she did, so Zas took over walking her. Even Nigel Su kept her company, although it was a toss-up if Pepper liked the attention from him or not.
Cameron helped her around the house as best he could. Especially since Zas became more involved with Ezza, and he needed to lavish more attention on his unborn child. The sight of the two of them cuddling and embracing all over the house made him happy but sad at the same time.
However, both he and Zas agreed with Nigel Su going through clothes left right and center, no one could afford to waste a lot of time scrubbing: so they got a washer. At first Ezza was vehemently against it, but when Zas pointed out that she could then do the washing and they would only have to hang the clothes outside for her, she changed her tune. Besides watching the clothes spin entertained not only Nigel Su, but Pepper too. In fact they bonded a bit over it.
As the days got closer to when Ezza would go into labour, both Zas and Cameron started reading more literature on birth, and birthing. They both seemed adamant about it being as easy and smooth as possible. When Ezza pointed out that watching comedy movies about it wasn’t actually research, Cameron told her not to spoil the fun. He was after all claiming her birth as his as well, since he had been passed out and never really experienced it.
Ezza began to rule with an iron fist. Since she couldn’t go out and tend to her garden herself, she sent both men out to do it for her. After the first day she gave them note pads and told them to write down what they saw and then would tell them what to do after that. More often than not Cameron would immerse himself on the computer building apps and mods, or researching the W.E.B.B.I.N.G. Unfortunately every avenue his Network tried to find out about Ground Zero turned up nothing so far, or rumours and myths. Akira was attempting to sort it all out.
It was the middle of the day, and Ezza had just finished cleaning up some of Nigel Su’s mess. He was cute and charming, but he was like a Tornado during a Hurricane, that was throwing a party with his best friend Monsoon. She had just finished putting away the last toy and was sitting on the couch in the living room to watch some tv with Cameron, when she felt pain in her stomach. It was quick and sharp, and it came again.
It was like she couldn’t catch her breath. Cameron was catching her up on what she had missed so far, and Ezza was trying to call Zas. When she found she couldn’t make noise, she slapped the man beside her on the shoulder to get his attention. Cameron looked at her in concern and then shouted for Zas.
Zas came running out of the office at the noise. Seeing Ezza he started freaking out.
It didn’t last long at all, not like the books said it should. It did, however, last long enough for Zas to annoy Ezza with facts about giving birth and how it was all going to be okay, and for everyone to notice his rash had disappeared.
Cameron found Nigel Su hiding behind his bed from the screams he could hear in the living room. He comforted him as best he could and kept him occupied with toys. He also helped Ezza and Zas as much as he could. Thank gods, he had not been conscious during this.
A few hours later, Ezza was staring over the edge of the bassinets that they had bought earlier. She smiled down at the three perfect life forms that she had brought into the world. Zas came and stood beside her. He was afraid she was going to pass out. Ezza rested her head on his shoulder.
“They’re beautiful.” Ezza said smiling.
“Of course they are. You’re the best farmer I know of.” Zas said. He had smile on his face too.
“Farmer? What are you talking about?” Ezza asked confused.
“You made the most beautiful patch of eggplants I’ve ever seen.” Zas said with a straight face. Ezza let out an outraged noise and slapped him. Then she started to cry, claiming that Zas had just wrecked a beautiful moment. That’s when they heard it, well sort of. It was more shouted across their minds.
…hun…
…gry…
…hun…gry…
Both of them froze. They heard a click from down the hall. Cameron came out holding Nigel Su, a look of wonderment on his face.
“Did you guys hear that?” Cameron asked he came closer. Ezza let out a gasp then began to smile and cry at the same time. Zas seemed to beam, he nodded his head to Cameron.
“Baby!” Nigel Su squealed happily.
“Yeah, it’s my army of eggplants.” Zas said proudly.
Ezza sighed and got out of the bed, they were hungry and Zas was being overwhelmed. At least they were getting into a routine now. Slipping on some clothes she walked into nursery and picked up one of the babies. Smiling she began to help Zas feed them.
