Home Is Where The Heart Is
“Are we done yet? I thought the last one was just fine.” Zas complained as they entered another apartment building. Cameron rolled his eyes.
“Give me strength! You’ve said that about the last 3 places today. You’ve said that every time we go out looking. I’m tired of hearing how fine they are. I want to hear wow!” Cameron said exasperation and frustration in his voice.
“It’s four walls and roof. Nothing special.” Zas said as they exited the elevator. They both looked up at the red double doors as the entrance to the apartment.
“Wow,” Cameron said awe in his voice. It was a bit intimidating.
“Yeah, talk about over compensation.” Zas said. It earned him a tongue click from Cameron. They rang the bell to let the realtor know they were there.
“All I’m saying was that was ridiculous.” Cameron said. As they headed to the elevator.
“I don’t know, I kind of liked it.” Zas said as he pressed the button.
“Really? Which part? The light airy rooms that look like ballrooms, or that it only has one entrance and exit? How about how there are so many rules to maintain there?” Cameron asked sarcastically. Whoever lived there had more money than brains.
“I liked the fact that it was serviced.” Zas said looking down at his piece of paper. It listed all the addresses they were looking at.
“Lazy Muffin, very lazy.” Cameron said peering over his shoulder. “This one next.”
Zas groaned.
Zas looked up at the last place on their list. This can’t be right. He looked over at Cameron.
“I’m quite proud of myself for finding this place. I think it could be everything.” Cameron said with a smile on his face.
“Everything what?” Zas asked.
“Just…everything.” Cameron said heading up the walk. Zas nodded as he followed Cameron.
It was blue with white trim and large. Lush plant life surrounded the front, and the entrance gave the impression of a warm welcome, even before they knocked. Cameron smiled as he gazed at it. Zas could almost hear laughter echoing from it. Lifting his hand he knocked on the door.
Zas closed the door behind himself. This place was a bit crowded but it had amazing bones, and every room was better than the last. It had a very comfortable, lived in feel. Zas was tempted to say wow.
“Muffin let’s look outside.” Cameron called from down the hall. He smiled to himself, Zas had a look of wonder on his face. We’ve finally found it, he thought.
Outside they looked at the vast expanse of lawn. It was well maintained.
“Ezza could build the worlds best garden here.” Cameron said to Zas holding his hands out in a framing gesture.
“She already has that, but she could really spread it out here.” Zas said nodding in agreement.
“Exactly, and this is just the one side, wait until you see the backyard.” Cameron said gesturing for Zas to follow him.
They were standing and looking down at cartoonish looking statues.
“It has elements for a family home too.” Cameron said smiling.
“What do we want that for?” Zas asked him. Cameron snorted and shook his head.
“You need help Muffin. Why wouldn’t you want that?” Cameron asked him. Zas sighed, everyone just had to push.
Outside, the two guys were talking.
“Cameron, I need to talk to you about what happened the other night.” Zas said broaching the subject delicately.
Cameron’s eyes narrowed, if Zas was trying to be polite, even subtle it wasn’t a good sign. He sat down.
“What is it?” Cameron asked. Zas went on to explain what had happened at the bar. Cameron listened, then explained that the Sci Fi show was a front for the The Council’s news. It was spread during the episodes, and that those loyal to The Council watched and listened attentively.
“So, now you know a few to watch out for. Careful how you step Muffin.” Cameron warned.
“Well?” Cameron asked.
“Wow, but it’s almost too good to be real. All this space, the Jacuzzi, the yard, all of it, and in the city no less.” Zas said. He really did love it, and that was something he never thought he’d say about a living arrangement. He did feel it was almost too good to be true; it had to be.
“Finally! So we have a keeper then?” Cameron asked Zas. Zas nodded his head.
“It is real right? It’s for rent, not sale? We can do what we like?” Zas confirmed with Cameron. Cameron laughed and nodded.
“My Pretty Baby is going to love it; Trust me.” Cameron said. Zas did, he absolutely did. This was perfect for Ezza. Zas was getting excited.
“Alright, one last step to commemorate our not killing each other, and our wonderful new find.” Cameron said gesturing Zas over to himself. Zas went over, a look of confusion on his face. Cameron pulled out his phone and took a photo. Zas sighed as he looked at it. Then he took the phone from Cameron.
“You need help. Like this, lean in.” Zas said. Then he snapped the photo.
“This will look good on the wall, don’t you think?” Cameron said taking his phone back and wandering off. Zas nodded, he was busy taking a last look around. Perfect.
