“I seriously cannot believe you got Command to approve this ridiculous hair thing you have going on,” Leslie said as checked the approved clothing once more. Too bad Command hadn’t let him pack his advanced science gear- he could have learned so much more.
“I still can’t believe you went for that utterly disappointing carbon copy of a human male. At least I’m adding some flair.” Gus said. He stopped to check his disguise once more in the shiny walls of the hallway. He fixed the hair he’d practically had to beg for once more then caught up with Leslie.
“So much fuss over something so…” Leslie was struggling to find the right word.
“Beautiful? Creative? Inspirational? Freeing?” Gus suggested with a smile.
“Stupid.” Leslie finally finished. He looked over at Gus. His friend had a hurt look. Sighing he stopped and turned his friend, making him face him.
“We’re supposed to be assimilating into Human Culture, not trying to out do it.” Leslie tried to explain. Gus nodded slightly mollified. They continued on.
“Annd you were worried about me.” Gus said coming to a halt a short distance from their meeting point. Both men looked up to see a hulking and sinister form in front of them. The figure slowly turned allowing the hall lights to illuminate them.
“Oh hey guys! Glad you’re here. I thought maybe I got the time wrong and missed the mission.” Imo waived in greeting.
“We’re going to observe them, not slay them.” Leslie said walking up to Imo, a disapproving look on his face.
“Yes, and not to out do them either,” Gus chimed in following behind.
“I know that. I just did a little extra research and based my disguise off all the data presented.” Imo said defensively. “Is it really that bad?”
“No, Leslie just has no sense of creativity. If it’s not scientific, it’s not the right way. All details count.” Gus said patting Imo’s shoulder.
Leslie rolled his eyes as they all took their positions. He signaled for them to finalize their appearances and gear. This was it! As the timer started to countdown, he stood proudly, ready to serve. They’d been chosen by Command to fulfill this important task, and he wouldn’t let them down.
“Leslie is a human girls name by the way.” Imo said in the dim light.
“Tried telling him.” Gus said. Imo and Gus let a chuckle.
Leslie cringed as the countdown finished and they were teleported off the transport ship onto Earth.
This was a very interesting start! The banter between the three was well done, showing a long time friendship or knowledge of one another. “Leslie is a girls name you know.” “I tried to tell him.” Can’t wait to see what they will be doing when they get there. Count down: Three, Two, One, Lift off!
