Let’s Hear it for Shiny Things
Day Two
Upon waking up, Greta realized that he pep-talk she had given herself last night really did help. So, she gave herself another one this morning. Using the shower (which miracle of miracles) seemed to work adequately enough, she took a cold but much needed shower. Another small breakfast of found cereal and she was out the door. On the island, she found a seed. Hmmm, this could come in handy. Maybe more things would wash ashore in time, like another person or some more furniture! Keeping hope in her heart, Greta decided to go snorkeling again. This time around she only found one shell, and a really creepy gnome-like doll. The water was really murky and too hard to see clearly in, but she guessed that was from he huge storm that happened last night.
Feeling a bit dejected she returned home. That’s funny, it’d only been one day but she had come to think of it as her home. When she arrived, there were two people on her island! They looked really weird and kept taking turns making poofing noises. She decided to leave them alone. They must be from another island, but if that’s what they were like over there, then they could stay over there.
That’s when Greta noticed the fish jumping in the water again. Deciding that her humiliating failure the before wasn’t going to happen again, Greta tried fishing. She caught 7 fish! They were really tiny anchovies, but still! Feeling totally happy with herself she took them downstairs to cook and eat. On the way, she remember that didn’t have a stove or know how to cook. Her enthusiasm curbed, she now had a new goal…maybe.
Spying a wild raccoon, she decided to stop and talk to it for awhile (because talking to yourself after awhile just leads to arguing.) After being bit a couple of times, Greta decided to leave the animal alone. After all, they were going to be living together for awhile, there was no need to rush.
After just getting on the ship, she noticed a new mailbox and a catalogue. Pelican News Delivery? It buys and sells stuff!? Now this might be interesting. No need to call, just place an order for buying or selling in the mailbox. Right, what mailbox? Looking beside her, she noticed the new shiny mailbox. Oh, this will make things much easier. Thinking deeply, she continued downstairs.
After a dinner of green salad, she got back into her sleeping bag (now thankfully dry,) and went to sleep. Thing were starting to look up, maybe this life won’t be so sad.
